විජයනගර අධිරාජ්‍යය, හෙවත් කර්ණාට රාජධානිය[3] යනුවෙන් හැඳින්වෙන්නේ දකුණු ඉන්දියාවේ ඩෙකාන් සානුව ප්‍රදේශයේ පැවති අධිරාජ්‍යයකි. 1082 දී සංගම රාජවංශයේ හරිහර I සහ බුක්ක රාය I යන සහෝදරවරුන් විසින් ගොඩනැගූ මෙම අධිරාජ්‍යයේ පාලකයන් අතරට[4] යාදව පෙළපතට හිමිකම් කියූ ගොපලු ප්‍රජාවක් අයත් විය.[5] 13වන සියවසේ අග භාගයේ ඉස්ලාමීය ආක්‍රමණවලට ප්‍රතිචාරයක් ලෙස දකුණු ඉන්දියාවෙහි නැගී ආ මෙම අධිරාජ්‍යය එහි උච්චතම අවධියේ දී දකුණු ඉන්දියාවේ සියලු රජ පවුල් සහ ඩෙකාන් ප්‍රදේශයේ සුල්තාන්වරුන් සිය පාලනයට නතු කරගැනීමට සමත් විය.[6] 1565 තාළිකෝටා සටනේ දී ඩෙකාන් සුල්තානයේ සංයුක්ත හමුදා අතින් ප්‍රබල පරාජයක් ලැබුව ද, මෙම අධිරාජ්‍යය 1646 තෙක්ම පැවතිණි. මෙම අධිරාජ්‍යයට එම නම ලැබී ඇත්තේ ඉන්දියාවේ කර්ණාටක ප්‍රාන්තයේ පිහිටි ලෝක උරුම අඩවියක් වන වර්තමාන හම්පි හෙවත් විජනගර නම් අගනගරය නිසායි.[7] මධ්‍යකාලීන යුරෝපීය දේශාටකයන් වන ඩොමිංගෝ පයස්, ෆර්නාඕ නුනීස්, සහ නිකොලෝ ඩි කොන්ටි වැනි අයගේ සටහන් සහ දේශීය භාෂා සාහිත්‍ය මූලාශ්‍ර තුළින් මෙහි ඉතිහාසය පිළිබඳ වැදගත් තොරතුරු ලබා දෙයි.
