The Language portal.jpg)     භාෂාව යනු සන්නිවේදන ක්‍රමයකි. මානව භාෂණ හා කථන භාෂා සංකේත සහ එම සංකේත හසුරුවන ව්‍යාකරණය ඇතුළත් පද්ධතිය ලෙස විස්තර කළ හැකි ය. එම නිසා භාෂාව වනාහි පුද්ගලයකුගේ කථන ඉන්ද්රිය උපකාර කොට ශබ්දය මුදාහැරීමත් එය විවිධාකාර ලෙස අනුයෝජනය කිරීමත්ය. මිනිසා සොයා ගෙන ඇති ප්‍රබලම උපකරණය භාෂාව යි.එමෙන්ම භාෂාව මිනිසාගේ සිතීමේ උපකරණය ලෙසද සැලකිය හැකිය. ප්‍රථම ලිඛිත භාෂා ක්‍රමය වුයේ නීලංකාරයයි. නමුත් කථාකරන භාෂාව ලිවිම ඇරඹිමට අඩු වශයෙන් අවුරුදු දසදහස් ගණනක් ගත වු බව විශ්වාස කෙරේ. භාෂාවක් යනු දෘශ්‍ය ශ්‍රව්‍ය හෝ දෘශ්‍ය සන්නිවේදන සංකේතයන් හා ඒවා මෙහෙයවිම සදහා යොදාත් රීතින්ය. එවැනි ක්‍රමයක් සාමාන්‍ය සංසිද්ධියක් ලෙස යොදා ගැනිමද, භාෂාවක් යනුවෙන් හැදින්විය හැකි. භාෂාව විශේෂිත මිනිස් සංනිවේදන මාධ්‍යයක් ලෙස සැලකේ. සතුන් විසින් සැලකිය යුතුලෙස සංකීර්ණ වු සංනිවේදන ක්‍රම භාවිතා කළද ඒවා කිසිවක් වාග් විද්‍යාඥයින් විසින් භාෂාව නිර්වචනය කිරිමට යොදා ගන්නා සියළු ගුණයන් අඩංගු වන බවත් දැනගන්නට නැත.
