^ In 1964, Takhtajan proposed that classes including Monocotyledons, be formally named with the suffix -atae, so that the principle of typification resulted in Liliatae for monocotyledons.^[5] The proposal was formally described in 1966 by Cronquist, Takhtajan and Zimmermann,^[1] from which is derived the descriptor "liliates".
