Haldummulla lies about 175 km off the capital of Colombo at a elevation of about 1200 metres. A Portuguese fort has existed in the early 17th century between Haldummulla and Idalgashinna. Only stones outlining the shape of the base of  this Haldemulla Fort  fort lie within forestry in the present day. At the time of its existence, it formed a frontier post for the Colombo based area under Portuguese control. The Idalgashinna pass was a gateway to the Uva and its capital of Badulla and it was used as a staging post by the Portuguese forces.

This Portuguese Fort is built on the summit of Haldummulla hill. This fort has also being referred to as Katugodalla Fort. Since this is built on a strategic location it gives one an excellent view of the surrounding area.

Haldummulla is a town located in Badulla District of Uva Province, Sri Lanka.The town is popular for its archeological sites such as Soragune Devalaya and Ancient Dutch Fort. Soragune Devalaya-The ancient Katharagama Devalaya of Soragune temple has been built during the era of King Valagamba.
