Parameters[සංස්කරණය]
There are many named parameters, one required ('year') and all the rest optional. The first three have positional (numeric) aliases (1, 2, 3). Normally, three or four parameters are sufficient to provide full verifiability for a footnote:
|year=– year of publication; alias:|1=; no default, parameter is required|volume=– number of the volume; 1 to 29, or specify valuesIndexorPropaedia; (alias:|2=; no default)|article=– name of the article from the encyclopedia; aliases:3,headword,title. (no default)|page=– page number(s) of the article in the given volume (or, use:|pages=; no default)
Note that these two {{citation}} params are fixed and their values cannot be overridden; their values are:

There are many other named parameters that are the same as those described in Template:Cite encyclopedia. Note that there is normally no reason to specify |editor=, as the template will choose the right name based on the value of param year.
These additional named parameters are available, and are all optional. If specified, they wrap the corresponding parameter in {{cite encyclopedia}}. See the documentation at {{cite encyclopedia#Parameters}} for a description.

Shortened footnotes[සංස්කරණය]
If you are using shortened footnotes and adding numerous footnotes from different pages of the same volume, it may be most convenient to include the volume in the |ref= param, so you only have to specify the page number in the short footnotes:
The sky is blue.{{sfn|EB15-v28|1989|p=789}} There are clouds in it.{{sfn|EB15-v28|1989|p=807}} And stars, after dark.{{sfn|EB15-v28|1989|pp=791–793}}

But if your short footnotes reference a number of different volumes, it may be more convenient to avoid specifying the volume in the main citation, and use the |loc= parameter of {{sfn}} to specify both volume and page at the same time:
The sky is blue.{{sfn|EB15|1991|loc=v.28, p.789}} There are clouds in it.{{sfn|EB15|1991|loc=v.5, p.128}} And stars, after dark.{{sfn|EB15|1991|loc=v.2, p.417–419}}

Note that since the default for |ref= if omitted is EB15 plus the year, the |ref= param in the second case above could be left out entirely, and {{Cite EB15|1991}} alone would both generate the exact same full citation, as well as provide proper linkage for all the {{sfn}} templates in that example.
