ශ්‍රී ලංකා බාලදක්ෂිකා සංගමය ගැහැණු ළමයින් උදෙසා ම පිහිටවනු ලැබූ සංවිධානයකි. ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ බාලදක්ෂිකා කටයුතු ආරම්භ වූයේ 1917 මාර්තු 21 දිනය. මහනුවර උසස් බාලිකා විදුහලේ එවකට විදුහල්පතිනිය වූ Miss F.R. Samson සැන්සම් මෙනෙවියගේ උනන්දුව මත ජෙනී කැල්වර්ලි Mrs. Jenny Greene Calverley මෙනෙවිය විසින් මෙම ව්‍යාපාරය ලංකාවට හඳුන්වා දෙනු ලැබීය. ඇය විසින් මෙරටට නෙට්බෝල් ක්‍රීඩාව හඳුන්වාදීමට කටයුතු කලබව ද පැවසේ. මහනුවර උසස් බාලිකා විද්‍යාලයේ තරුණ ගැහැණු ළමුන් 40 ක් බඳවාගෙන 1වන මහනුවර බාලදක්ෂිකා සමාගම 1st Kandy Guide Company පිහිටුවන ලදී.
ලෝක බාලදක්ෂිකා ව්‍යාපාරය අද වන විට ලොව පුරා ව්‍යාප්ත වී තිබේ. මේ වනවිට ලොව පුරා සිටින බාලදක්ෂයන් හා බාලදක්ෂිකා සාමාජික සංඛ්‍යාව මිලියන 41 ඉක්මවා ඇති බව වාර්තාවේ.
ලෝක බාලදක්ෂ හා බාලදක්ෂිකා ව්‍යාපාර සඳහා සෙවණ සදන විශාලතම සංවිධානයන් දෙක ලෙස ලෝක බාලදක්ෂ සංගමය (World Organization of the Scout Movement - (WOSM)) සහ ලෝක බාලදක්ෂිකා සංගමය (World Association for Girl Guides and Girl Scouts - WAGGGS) හැදින්විය හැකිය.
Guiding in Sri Lanka began in 1917 when the first Girl Guide company was opened in the historic hill town of Kandy. The Movement has since spread to all areas of the country, to strengthening ties between girls and young women from the country’s diverse ethnic, cultural and religious groups. The Association will be celebrating its centenary in March 2017. Centenary activities will commence on 25 June 2014 with the tagline A 1000 Days to A 100 years. From 25 June to 1 July 2014 the Association will be organising a Child Safety Week with child safety specific themes for each of the seven days.
