Pahamune Sumangala
Pahamune Sri Sumangala Mahanayake thero (1927-1945)
Born as the eldest son of Ekanayaka Ranhami Madhurasinghe Veda, who lived in Pahamune village of Kurunegala district, and Ukkuamma Mahakumarihami of Jayasundara Ralahamila of Henepola Ellanda Kotuve, Rakeva Patthu Korale, he was the eldest son of the late Kiribanda.
When his parents passed away when he was a child, he spent his princely days in the company of his grand-in-law Hindagolla Sri Vijayarama Viharaya Chief Venerable Pahamune Sumana Thero, and in the year 1863 AD, he was succeeded by Badagamuwa Viharaya Chief Dr. At the historic Badagamuwa Rajamaha Vihara.
Venerable Lord Medagama Sri Devamittabhidhana Thero, who served as Mahanayaka of Malwatu Mahavihara, was Higher ordained in May 1871 under the guidance of Godtale Sri Sumangala Thero, who was the head teacher of Vavgonne Sri Vipassyabhidhana Anunayake.
After that, he lived in Gadaladeniya Sri Saddharmathilaka Vihara and went to our Malvatu Maha Vihara in 1877. There, Hippola Sri Dharmarakshita Sobhitabhidhana the Thirteenth Mahanayaka Therodra became the Karmavagacharya Thanantarapraptah of the Malvatu Maha Viharaya and became the Honorary Secretary of the Sangha.
Not only that, but His Holiness Thibbattuave Sri Siddhartha Sumangalabhidhana the 23rd Mahanayake received the post of anuijjaka and became the chief Sanghanayaka of the North-West District.
On the 9th of December 1927, after the death of Ambanwella Sri Siddhartha Sumangalabhidhana the Seventeenth Mahanayake Lord, who became the Anunayake of Malwatu Maha Vihara in 1922 AD.
He passed away on December 2, 1945 AD.
