රට (country) යනු geographical region considered to be the physical territory of a ස්වාධිපත්‍ය රාජ්‍යයකට (sovereign state) අයත් භූමිය(හෝ සාගරය) යයි සැලකෙන භූගෝලීය (geographic) ප්‍රදේශයයි. සාමාන්‍යෙයන් (සැමවිටම නොවේ) රට සහ ස්වාධිපත්‍ය රාජ්‍යය (sovereign territory) සමරූපීවේ. රට යන්න රාජ්‍යය, ජාතිකය (nation) සහ ආණ්ඩුව (government) යන සංකල්ප සමග බැඳී පවතී.
