චක්‍රාවාට යනු අති විශාල ගුරුත්වය මගින් එකිනෙක බැඳී ඇති, තාරකා වායූන් සහ දුහුවිලි අංශුන් ගෙන් සැදුම්ලත් interstellar medium සහ අඳුරු පධාර්ථයෙන් සමන්විත පද්දති විශේෂයකි. සාමාන්යෙන් ගත් කල චක්‍රාවාට, පොදු ගුරුත්ව කේන්ද්‍රයක් වටා භ්‍රමණයවන තාරකා මිලියන දහයකින් (107) පමණ සැදුම්ලත් වාමණයන්ගේ සිට ට්‍රිලියන එකක් (1012) පමණ තාරකා ගහනයකින් යුතු යෝධ චක්‍රාවාට දක්වා පරාසයක පැතිර පවතී.
