එහි රාජ්ය පිහිටවනු ලැබුවේ 1278 වර්ෂයේ දීය. රාජතන්ත්රයේ භූමිකාව ප්රංශ සමුහාණ්ඩුවේ ජනාධිපති සහ ස්පාඤ්ඥයේ කැටලෝනියා අර්ගල්හි රජතුමා අතර බෙදේ. එහි පවතින සංචාරක ව්යාපාරය නිසා එය සෞභාග්යවත් රටකි. එරටට වර්ෂයකට පැමිණෙන සංචාරකයින් සංඛ්යාව මිලියන 10.2 ක් ලෙස ඇස්තමේන්තු ගත කොට ඇත. ඊට එහි පවතින බදු හා වරාය ප්රතිරූපය ද ඊට ඉවහල් වේ. යුරෝපියානු සංගමයේ සාමාජිකයෙක් නොවේ. ඇන්ඩෝරානුවන් ලෝකයේ වැඩිම පුද්ගල ආයුකාලයක් පවතින රටවල් අතර දෙවැනි තැන ගනී. එය උපතේ සිට වසර 82 කි.
