Shanaka Sidney Mills (born 30 September 1991) is a Sri Lankan engineering draftsman, technical supervisor, and entrepreneur. He is known for his work in the steel fabrication industry, especially in stainless steel kitchen equipment and industrial machinery. He is also the founder of SSM Safety Products & Equipments, a hardware and fabrication supply business based in Minuwangoda, Sri Lanka.
Early Life and Education
[සංස්කරණය]Shanaka Sidney Mills was born at the Minuwangoda Government Hospital, Sri Lanka, into a Buddhist family. His father is Noyel Mills and his mother is Pathmini Chandralatha. He has an elder brother, Dumindu Shiran Mills, and an elder sister, Nadeeka Lakmini Mills.
He studied at Minuwangoda Nalanda Central College and sat for the GCE Advanced Level examination in 2009. He later obtained an AutoCAD Diploma from Teleview Technical Academy. He also completed the Engineering Draftsman course at the Lalith Athulathmudali Vocational Training Centre in Ratmalana, part of the Sri Lanka Youth Technical and Vocational Education system.
Career

[සංස්කරණය]In 2010, Mills worked as a Data Entry Officer at K.A. Ariyadasa Company in Veyangoda. From 2011 to 2012, he was employed as a Security Officer at N-Force Security Services in Mattakkuliya. He also served as a Management Trainee at Ideal Access Company in Ihala Bomiriya, Hanwella.
Engineering and Technical Career (2014–present)
[සංස්කරණය]From 2014 to 2023, Mills worked at Marvel Engineering (Pvt) Ltd, where he gained experience in drafting, stainless steel kitchen equipment fabrication, and workshop coordination. During this time, he was involved in several major international construction projects in the Maldives:
- Kandima Island: Supervised the smoked grill structure and the fabrication of a 200,000-liter diesel storage tank.
- Kudahuvadhoo Airport: Supervised the fabrication and installation of a 100,000-liter steel diesel storage tank.
- In 2016, the smoked steel structure for the Kandinma Island Grill was fabricated by [Marvel Engineering Pvt Ltd].[1]
In 2023, he joined Hansteel Fabrico in Ekala as a Technical Assistant, and later worked as a Technical Supervisor at Rams Metal Craft. At Rams Metal Craft, he was responsible for the fabrication of stainless steel and mild steel tanks and custom food industry machinery.
Entrepreneurship
